NANDANI + JAY

NANDANI + JAY

A three-day wedding where each event had a distinct colour palette and vibe, set against one of Goa’s coolest beaches.

MEHENDI

The mehendi was set in a beautiful lawn which overlooked the sea. We imagined this entire space to be large garden sitting with a beatiful conservatory. There was a abuundance of flowers and colours almost engulfing the entire structure . A stunning Bar by the sea and smaller cozy sitting made up for places where people sat to get mehendi. The evening turned into a party where the artist perfomed with a 400 year old cathedral as their backdrop.

POOL PARTY

We knew right at the beginning that this party had to be different. The Grand Hyatt in Goa has a series of interlocked pools surrounded by beautiful gardens. We colour blocked the entire space and played with the idea of blue and pink coming together to form an iridescent purple.

My favourite bit was the giant dance floor in the centre of the pool surrounded by over ten thousand pool balls. Eight hundred strings of shiny acrylic sheets were hung around the pool, they danced so perfectly in the sunlight and made the entire place look like a giant disco ball. I loved how it all came together in vivid perfection and looked like a part of a polaroid set appearing straight out of Slim Aaron's camera.

HALDI

The haldi took place in the Grand Hyatt Goa lawns which have the most surreal views of the sea- the greens of the lawn almost merge into the blues of the sea and horizon. Our task was to create a minimal haldi that wasn’t ostentatious but would still capture the essence of the ceremony.

A gorgeous large banyan tree sits in the middle of the garden and we allowed that to be the central focus of the afternoon and of the design. The guests watching the ceremony formed a crescent around it allowing each one to be a part of it even while they were at lunch, the bar or chilling by the water. We let the materials used in the ritual to be the guiding force of the design, actual haldi powder became a part of the centrepieces and matching marigolds filled the entire lawn.

I love how just by using one dominant colour and a minimal array of materials we were able to create a space with a beautiful visual vocabulary of its own.

WEDDING

I have spent the larger part of the past years exploring bamboo as a material and have been dying to make a mandap entirely of it. A really fun collaboration led to two modern tree like shapes that emerged from a garden of flowers. Our version of the tree of life with the sun setting behind them.

THE GREATEST PARTY EVER

The party post the wedding began at 11pm and continued till dawn. After rejected all the ballrooms at the property, we stumbled upon the semi built family home adjoining the property. We instantly knew this would be the venue for what truly was the greatest party ever. The existing architectural details were highlighted with neon pillars and the walls become the canvas for graffiti painted by friends.
